Reflecting back on Bersatu Games

It's just past midnight on a saturday night and i'm sitting in front of the computer with little else to do except to blog. Haha! How sad is that? But it's ok... i'm sick anyway. It'll be good to get more rest. :)

I've tried on many occasions to sit down and try to blog but somehow thoughts don't seem to be linked, sentences can't seem to be formed and therefore, no post can be shared. However, keeping to what I said in my previous post, I am trying my best to gather my thoughts in an orderly fashion.

It's been 1 1/2 weeks since Bersatu Games 2007 ended. Was it a success? Well, having googled other people's thoughts about the Games held in Christchurch this year, it seems like there are few positive comments regarding the CMSA contingent or the collective organisation of the Games. I don't know what to say. I'm not going to rebut their assumptions or statements. I am in no place to do so anyway. They are allowed to form their own opinions, so too am I. However for me, I choose not to express them.

I'm not going to give you all a full account of the games. I think I covered all that in my posts on the CMSA Bersatu Blog so check that out if you haven't already. In general, the Games this year was definitely different compared to that of last year. I assume that is because we were on home ground this year. Indeed, being the overall champions was a great feeling, but it did not seem as satisfying or as victorious as last year. However, we are still delighted to be the overall champions for the second time in a row. Hopefully we can make it three times yea? :)

Undoubtedly, the highlight of this year's games for me was when the Scorpion girls won Gold in netball. I was rather hesitant to take on the role of coach this year as somehow I always become the bad person - criticising, correcting, punishing, etc. the players. However the dedication, determination and passion that these girls possessed and displayed during trainings helped motivate me to try and bring out the best in them. For that, I honestly thank them for giving me such an experience and I hope they will forgive me for all the "suicides" and "starjumps" I made them do. Haha! You girls are the best and i'm so proud of all of you. Click here for a more comprehensive post on the CMSA Scorpions! I think I said it a lot better there. :P

And of course, I must acknowledge our constant supporters for without them, our team would not have been the same. Thank you all so much for all your input, all your time and effort to attend trainings, your constant encouragement not only to the girls but especially to me. Very much appreciated. No words can express the gratitude that I truly feel. Missing in the photo: Mark and Azmir who contributed so much as well. Thank you all!

Altogether now... :)

Some photos from our trainings... It was meant to be serious guys! Hehe!

Where's dear Farah? With her boyfriend? Keke!!

My jersey! Thanks Azmir for the "special" jersey. Keke!!

For the remainder of the Games I ended up being surprisingly very busy when I was suddenly assigned the job of correcting the scheduling screw up and trying to coordinate between the sports, accommodating for clashes, etc. So unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to socialise and take photos during the games. *sNiFF*! Someone owes me a lot of mocktails STILL!! *aHeM*!! Of course, I lost my voice on the very first day and have not recovered it since, even though it has been 2 weeks. The sacrifices I make. *SiGh*! Haha!!

The closing dinner held at Hotel Grand Chancellor. I must say that the video shown was very well made - the last chapter was expecially touching. Just a few photos:

Just to finish off the night... the after party held at The Boulevard.

Me and the girls...

The gay couple. Keke!

That pretty much sums up Bersatu Games 2007... for me anyway. Probably unknown to all of you, this year's Bersatu Games was the last one for most of us who have been participating or have been a part of it for the past 5 years (or more)! It has been great fun. Friends have been made... friends have been lost... but it was always nice to have an event to look forward to every year where so many of us would meet. Just hope that this event will be as successful in the future as it has been in the past.

More photos will be posted up soon. Until next time... Good night all!
