Since Guy Fawkes...

Cheong randomly decided to hold a small get together early last month. What was the occasion? Up 'til now I still have no idea but it was fun and it had been a long time since we held such a dinner. Food was delicious although it had been heated up so many times until the siew bak looked like left overs! Haha! So much for having a taste of Cheong's cooking. Cheh! So who should we say thanks to... Chopsticks or Joyful?! *aHeM*!

... And then there were my fruits - Rockmelon, Honeydew, Watermelon, Golden Kiwifruit & Pears... Yummy!! I'm a melony person. Keke...

After dinner, we played a game that Mark brought over called "Cranium". Interesting game... Should try it sometime. The videos are absolutely hilarious but i'm too lazy to upload them onto the internet and also, I did promise that I wouldn't and I shall stick to it! Hehe! :P Good times though...

After winning our volleyball game that week, a few of us decided to go out for quiet drinks at Le Plonk. It was a nice, relaxing evening. Was suppose to have an early night but ended up going home at around 5 in the morning. I still remember everyone's faces as they walked out of Boys & Girls totally shocked when they saw how bright it was outside! Haha! Classic...

"Beautiful Girls" trained extremely hard for two weeks just to play the hardest match of the tournament against "Geoff's team". We were very disappointed, losing 2 - 4 (winning only the men's doubles and Hock/my mixed doubles). What sucked was that they substituted one of the girls with a Japanese regional player. How can two amateurs compete with that? *SiGh*!

We had a draw for volleyball going up against "Double Dutch". It was a pretty close game, deucing for 2 sets. Took a volleyball team photo with our supportive fans, just for Yang as it was his final game of the tournament. As usual, a few people from the team are missing, namely Aliff, Freddie, Nik & Tung. Our team never seems to be complete... Hmmm!!

Front row (from left to right): Tzin Wei, Yoko, Me, Mark, Hock, Cheong

The Netball World Championships started that weekend. I tried to watch every game possible but without Sky TV, it was quite difficult. I watched a couple of games at Ronald's house, even watched part of a game at TAB when we went to bet and watched it at Chin Yang's house during the bbq where I must have come across as very anti-social but the game was just too intense. Hehe! Apologies... Apologies... To my disappointment, New Zealand came runner up losing 38 - 42 to Australia... AGAIN... So gutted but Australia had a stronger team... Bleh...

Just getting ahead of myself... Rewind!! Hehe...

A few of us sent Yang off at the airport... Don't worry, he's just leaving for the summer then he'll be back to taking over my position next year - as the president of the bummers club! Hehe! Will definitely miss him~

That evening, we had dinner at Great Wall to celebrate Kim Loong's 22nd birthday dinner. OMG!! 22... Still so young! Forgot to bring a cake knife so they offered us a clever instead. Nice...

The day after Yang left, Sophia arrived in Christchurch... AGAIN! Somehow they always miss each other by a day... I reckon they secretly plan it to avoid getting hassled but anyway... Shhh!! :P Hehe... Anyway, this is us... having a few drinks at The Cross, Sol Square with Tung and Kim Loong as well...

That week, "Beautiful Girls" won 5 - 1, winning all their games except the women's doubles. Somehow we just can't seem to win... *SiGh*!

The following day, we celebrated Ellen's 24th birthday by the traditional, cutting of the cake, at her house after winning our weekly volleyball match against "Satellite Junkies" (hence why most of us except for the supporters look so scruffy).

Middle row: Me, Ronald, Hock, Cin
Front row: Tung, Ellen, Jin, Justin

After pigging out on cake (cuz we were so incredibly hungry!!!), we decided to go home to freshen up and then as usual, karaoke at Boys & Girls... again... Uh huh... "It's tradition... Yeah right..."

The following week, "Beautiful Girls" played their final match of the tournament, winning 5 - 1. The only game we lost was the women's doubles (again). Was hoping to at least win the women's doubles once in the tournament but our hopes were crushed! So sad... Our team ended up coming 3rd overall which wasn't too bad although we could have possibly come 2nd had we trained before entering the competition. Oh well... Good experience though.

I had no expectations coming into the tournament but I must say that I have learned so much and have great respect for the game (despite what my friends think). It's definitely not easy... I had forgotten what it's like to be a beginner - learning the techniques and skills for a new game. Maybe it wasn't a new sport to me... but it was new in the sense that I had always played it socially and never competitively.

I thank Mark (my mixed partner) who spent so much time training me up on court and in the gym, Nik, Bernald & Yang for their input, tips and constant encouragement as side-line coaches. Of course I thank my other team mates, Cin and Hock for being excellent team mates for without them, "Beautiful Girls" wouldn't have been what it was. Bye bye Badminton Hall until who knows when...

Me, Cin, Mark & Hock

Sophia's cousin, Janice, stopped over in Christchurch as she did the New Zealand tour. As requested by Sophia, I had to be a good tour guide and brought her up to Cashmere Hill to see the city lights at night. The last time I went up to the lookout point during the dark would be almost 4 years ago. So it was nice going back there after so long, a change from the routine - something that we haven't done for ages. Of course, we left out the racing-up-the-hill part.

Had the last volleyball match for the year that week. I think it turned out pretty good. I believe everyone enjoyed themselves and we came out winning 3 - 1. Tung actually played that night seeing as it would be his final match. We took another team photo outside of the stadium... Needless to say, some of the team are absent...

Had been pretty busy over the past month or more sending out CVs and cover letters to suddenly find myself having 3 interviews (with different companies) within 2 1/2 weeks. Finally on what was also my brother's 28th birthday, I was offered a job... in Christchurch... Later that day, I was offered a second interview with another company, which I turned down because I wasn't too keen to join that firm. Gosh... You get silence for ages and then suddenly you find yourself with options! Anyway, you all can stop asking me whether i've found a job yet. Hehe! My bumming days are over! :P I don't know if that's a good thing or not though. Haha! J/K!!

Patrick's farewell was also on that night at Ishimoto, Sol Square.

At the start of the following week, I was given another job offer which led to my dilemma as to which company to join. Would have been so much easier had I just been offered one position. Hehe... Talked to various people about it as well so thank you all for your advice and opinions although most of you didn't help much seeing as apparently I was always bias towards one company! Eesh...

Followed Tzin Wei, Liz & Tung to Lincoln later that week to view some property subdivisions. Tzin Wei was a pretty good tour guide. Never really had an opportunity (or rather never really had the urge) to explore Lincoln but was really surprised at how nice some of the houses out there are and they're not that cheap either.

Other random stuff:

Attended church with Tung, Freddie and Kim Loong. Methodist church... Half in english + Half in chinese = Double the pain! :P But it was worth it for the weekly dim sum that we'd have afterwards. Then I got smarter and just met them at dim sum after church. Duh...

Joined Roy, Chong & Lily for weekly table tennis sessions. Been a while since I played but still enjoying it... and boy you can work out a sweat!

Got back into watching movies frequently. By frequent I mean on average one per week. That's a lot for me... Especially when the storyline is only stored in my short-term memory. Hehe! But the best movie amongst them so far would be "Heartbreak Kid". Good comedy~

That's all for now. Chao...
